Tales tales from the past - "Vanitas"

I had almost forgotten. I was flipping through a thick book of Caravaggio's paintings  when this got me back in my mind a painting from three years ago. Not directly inspired, but perhaps remained in the depths of the mind and subsequently made with no direct reference.
Another clue
yesterday to start a reflection about images in the back of our minds, brought from a friend about sculptor Rodin and his "The Thinker"

Tales from the past - "Evolution" 2000

"Evolution", 2000, 27" 1/2 x 20", acrilic on canvas.

This painting date back on year 2000, when often i used to work with airbrush on canvas.
-What's the right choice?

-Go ahead bringing the weight of evolution or thinking about a compromise?

The original idea comes from a photo that i shooted back in 1996 in San Francisco.

"The Incredulity of Saint Thomas", oil painting, work in progress, part 1.

Here's another painting project for the "religious surf series".
Once again the objects are changed to translate the message.
Here
I chose to have the position of the faces of three points whose sole corresponding circle has center in the damaged surfboard, but also to a parabolic descending
line.

"Saint Jerome Writing", oil painting, part 2, finished work.

Here is a personal interpretation of a Caravaggio's "Saint Jerome Writing" in surf culture vision.
How is important for surfers the board that they give so much pleasure? It's almost a religion?
For sure for many is a "passion", in the christian sense of the word.
Surfer talking about surfboards how much time we can't imagine,
that object could became a spiritual tool that leads to different dimension.

Simple objects from contemporary life and typical icon tools in surf culture like an old Skill100 planer is been put as a symbolic skull "memento mori" taken from classical iconography format  figurative painting oil on canvas based from Caravaggio's "Saint Jerome Writing" transposed in surf culture imagination. Rather than the Bible, measures in the  surfboard order form, needs to be transcribed in the new shaped deck.

Finally here the finished work.

Saint Jerome Writing, 2014, cm 70x100, oil on canvas.

Summer Solstice, Crespina, Italy

I have been enough lucky to be invited at this art event dedicated to summer solstice. Obviously theme is time.
"Solstizio. La Natura del Tempo".
This is a very inspired place to do a work.
I choose to reach much effect with less things i can.

Less is more.
We don't need much.
We don't need much to leave a sign.
We don't need much stuff to leave memory in people.
Ground.
Water.
Light.
This is what feed our lives.
...and our soul.
